The transformation of UAE in a digital economy

UAE is the most innovative Arab nation and 41st worldwide in the Global Innovation Index, the UAE plans to be among the world’s most innovative countries by 2021. The country, a crucible of innovation brimming with ideas, knows what it takes to achieve this target. The UAE’s innovation strategy indicates the importance of space research as a key element in building an advanced, high-tech based future for the UAE.

Today, UAE aims to be a successful smart country, by harnessing digital innovation in all endeavors. An ambitious plan for 2021, whose three main objectives are: to create a smart, reliable and resilient digital nation; connected, lean government; a globally competitive economy powered by disruptive technologies. Therefore, the current changes, initiatives and disrupting technologies are impressive, and building the road for the UAE to become one of the smartest countries in the world.

The United Arab Emirates is a fast-growing economy, Abu Dhabi is the capital and the second most populous city of the UAE. Abu Dhabi is the wealthiest emirate of the UAE in terms of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and per capita income. More than $1 trillion is invested worldwide in this city alone. In 2010, the GDP per capita also reached $49,600, which ranks ninth in the world. The city is also planning many future projects towards the digital ecosystem even in police and public services.

With its sci-fi-like cityscape and constant drive toward innovation, Dubai is often called the city of the future. Dubai’s technological journey began in 1999 with the announcement of its first ICT (Information Communications and Telecommunications) strategy, which was followed by the launch of Dubai Internet City, Dubai e-government, Dubai Smart Government and, in 2014, the Smart Dubai initiative. During the past two decades, the numerous digital transformation initiatives in the city have driven public acceptance and adoption of ICT in all aspects of life.
