Markets Disrupted Rethinking Risk, Regulations and Post Trade
Markets Disrupted
Rethinking Risk, Regulations and Post Trade
The disruption has begun. Unforseen events such as Brexit in 2016 and the unexpected Trump win have thrown global markets into a spiral of uncertainty. For risk managers, these unforeseen events means that banks will need to shift their attention towards moving from a historic Value at Risk (VAR) based testing towards more forward looking scenario analysis. For regulations, the commitment to move forward with expensive implementations of Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB) and Margin Reform is being questioned. Finally the advent of disruptive technology opens a whole new world in financial markets. Peer-to-peer (P2P) platforms where buyside institutions can start making markets, cloud technology where banks can adopt leaner 'plug and pay' solutions and distributed ledgers which will see the imminent collapse of trade date and settlement date into a matter of minutes.
Key focus areas:
Regulations: Will the Trump government be able to roll back markets regulations that were introduced post the financial crises. Hear from the original author of Dodd-Frank, Congress Barney Frank.
Rethinking investments and markets strategy in a new uncertain world ahead?
An overhauling of historic risk based modeling and a move towards forecasting black swans
FRTB, Margin Reform and SA-CCR: Complex regulations are coming but do banks have the appetite to implement them?
From Enterprise to Cloud based solutions and multi systems to Blockchain: Can this vision translate to reality?
Have banks failed to penetrate large segments of a growing ASEAN that needs banking services? How can the combination of disruptive technology and non bank lending, crowd funding provide much needed financing to the region?

Imagining the Future of Work- How the Skills we Hire and the Work we Value in Financial Institutions are Changing Today, are AI and Robotics Making a Difference already? From self-driving vehicles and semi-autonomous robots to intelligent algorithms and predictive analytic tools, machines are increasingly capable of performing a wide range of jobs that have long been human domains. Experts predicts that robots will have replaced one-third of jobs currently in existence in the developed world over the coming decade – with potentially profound implications for both workers and society as a whole. This session will also focus on how robots such as Pepper and chatbots like KAI are advanced technologies that will help humans cognitively offload transactional, daily tasks to focus more on the strategy level.
